Almora – World Biodiversity Day, celebrated every year on May 22, serves as a reminder of the richness of life on Earth and the vital role biodiversity plays in sustaining human life. Marking this occasion, a tree plantation program was organized at the Forest Rest House “Haritima Campus” under the Station Division, Almora.
The event witnessed the active participation of Station Division Officer Amit Singh Bhaisora, along with Bhaskar Nath Mahant, Vivek Tiwari, and Kavita. Local public representatives including Jheejhad Ward Councillor Amit Sah (Monu), Nanda Devi Ward Councillor Arjun Singh Bisht, and Lakshmeshwar Ward Councillor Abhishek Joshi also took part in the initiative, expressing their commitment to environmental conservation.
During the program, officials and representatives planted various species of saplings and emphasized the importance of preserving biodiversity. Speakers highlighted that biodiversity is not only crucial for the environment but also forms the backbone of culture, food security, and livelihoods.
The theme of World Biodiversity Day 2025 – “Harmony with Nature and Sustainable Development” – was prominently featured, reinforcing the message that a balanced approach to development and environmental conservation is essential for a better future.
The event aimed to raise local awareness about biodiversity conservation and encouraged community participation. Attendees were reminded that small individual efforts can collectively bring about significant positive change. The program concluded with a pledge by all participants to care for and protect the planted saplings.
