Almora:
A sense of fear and insecurity has gripped the residents of Siddhpur, Almora, following the reported sighting of a tiger in the Kushta Rehabilitation Area, Eastern Pokharkhali, Siddhpur. The incident has raised serious concerns about public safety, especially after the tiger allegedly attacked a cow in the area.
Gunjan Singh Chamyal, the elected municipal ward member of Siddhpur, has submitted a formal letter to the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Almora Forest Division, requesting urgent intervention under wildlife management protocols.
In the letter, Chamyal noted that the tiger has been spotted multiple times across various locations in the locality, instilling fear among women, children, and the elderly. Daily life has been significantly disrupted, and parents are now hesitant to send their children to school due to the threat posed by the wild animal.
He urged the Forest Department to immediately install a cage (trap) to safely capture the tiger, and deploy forest patrol teams in the area to prevent any unfortunate incidents. The letter also calls for the use of camera traps and other monitoring tools to track the tiger’s movements and ensure the safety of the residents.
Chamyal emphasized the need for prompt and coordinated action that ensures both public safety and the protection of wildlife. He also requested the department to conduct public awareness drives, educating locals on how to stay safe and report wildlife sightings.
Local citizens are anxiously awaiting the Forest Department’s response, hoping for swift and effective action to restore normalcy and safety in the area.
