A tragic incident unfolded early Monday morning in Mal village, Almora district, when a tiger attacked Dinesh Singh (approximately 32 years old) while he was in the courtyard of his house around 6:00 AM. Hearing the commotion, his father, Dhan Singh, rushed out with a stick to rescue him.
According to eyewitnesses, as Dhan Singh struck the tiger in an attempt to fend it off, the animal turned and attacked him as well, leaving him injured. Hearing the cries, local villagers quickly gathered and created noise to drive the tiger away. The tiger eventually retreated into the forest.
Both Dinesh and Dhan Singh were immediately taken to Base Hospital in Almora with the help of local residents. Hospital sources report that Dinesh is in critical condition and undergoing treatment, while Dhan Singh’s condition is stable.
Upon receiving information, a forest department team arrived at the scene to assess the situation. Villagers have been advised to remain vigilant and keep children indoors, especially during early morning and evening hours.
Former BJP District President Ramesh Bahuguna also reached the site after receiving news of the incident. He met the victim’s family and demanded prompt assistance from the administration. Bahuguna spoke directly with the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Almora, urging immediate action.
Following the discussion, the DFO assured that a cage would be installed the same day to capture the tiger. He also confirmed that the initial emergency relief amount would be provided to the affected family without delay.
This incident has created a wave of fear among the residents of Mal village. Locals are demanding that the tiger be safely captured and relocated to prevent any further danger.
The attack once again highlights the growing issue of human-wildlife conflict in the region, stressing the urgent need for effective measures to protect both human lives and wildlife.
