Almora – In a significant move to address growing public safety concerns, Advocate Chandni Khan has lodged a formal complaint on the Uttarakhand Chief Minister’s Helpline Portal (CM Portal) regarding the dilapidated condition of the Almora-Kosi motor road. The complaint highlights a dangerously damaged stretch of road approximately 11 kilometers from Almora, near the milestone reading ‘Almora 11 KM, Kosi 1 KM’, where large potholes have developed just 50 meters ahead.
According to Khan, this stretch has become particularly hazardous for two-wheeler riders, especially during the monsoon season, when the potholes often get filled with water, making them invisible and more perilous for commuters. She emphasized that these hidden dangers create the risk of serious accidents at any time.
“There have already been multiple incidents where two-wheelers have skidded on this stretch, resulting in serious injuries to the riders,” she said. “This road is a vital daily route between Almora and Kosi, frequently used by students, employees, and local residents. Its deteriorating condition demands immediate attention.”
In addition to the CM Portal complaint, Advocate Khan has also registered her concerns with the National Highway Division, Almora, urging officials to initiate prompt repair work. She has called on the concerned departments to fill the potholes immediately and ensure the road is made safe before any fatal incident occurs.
The issue has also garnered strong support from local residents, many of whom have echoed her concerns and demanded swift administrative action. Locals stressed that with the onset of the rainy season, the situation could worsen significantly, posing greater risks to life and property.
Community members have praised Advocate Khan’s initiative, stating that it reflects a much-needed citizen-led effort to hold authorities accountable for basic infrastructure maintenance.
The complaint has added urgency to an already pressing issue of road safety in the region. Residents now await action from the authorities, hoping that swift measures will be taken to repair the damaged section of the Almora-Kosi route and prevent future mishaps.
