
Inspector General Amit Kumar Highlights SSB’s Key Achievements

The 79th Independence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervor at the Frontier Headquarters of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Ranikhet. On this occasion, Inspector General Amit Kumar paid floral tributes at the Shaheed Smarak (Martyrs’ Memorial), honoring the brave martyrs of the force.
Later, he hoisted the national flag in the headquarters’ premises and addressed the officers and jawans of the force. Extending his warm wishes on the occasion of Independence Day, he expressed pride in the dedication and achievements of the SSB.
Highlighting the force’s performance over the past year, the Inspector General stated that, apart from guarding the Indo-Nepal and Indo-Bhutan borders, the SSB has played a vital role in anti-Naxal operations, internal security in Jammu & Kashmir, election duties, Amarnath Yatra deployment, and various rescue and relief operations across the country.
The Ranikhet Frontier Headquarters has also made notable progress in operations and intelligence activities. He shared that, with alert intelligence-based action, the force rescued 34 innocent victims in 32 human trafficking cases. Furthermore, in 80 smuggling cases, 111 criminals were apprehended and contraband including Indian currency amounting to ₹2.25 crore was seized—delivering a strong blow to those threatening national economic security.
In the battle against drug trafficking, 29 cases were registered and 41 offenders were arrested.
The SSB also undertook several human resource development initiatives for rural border communities, providing training in tailoring, embroidery, computer education, poultry farming, goat rearing, forestry, and modern agricultural practices.
Additionally, the force actively and effectively participated in relief and rescue operations in border areas, ensuring safety of lives and property, and winning the trust of local residents.
The Inspector General reiterated that the SSB remains committed to its motto of “Service, Security and Brotherhood”, and will continue to uphold these values with dedication in the years to come.
The celebrations saw active participation from all personnel of the force, along with school students who enthusiastically took selfies with the national flag at the specially set-up selfie points and uploaded them on social media and the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ portal.
Special invitees to the event included students, teachers, retired officers and personnel of paramilitary forces.
Dignitaries present at the program included Deputy Inspector General Durga Bahadur Sonar, Deputy IG (Medical) O.B. Singh, Commandant Debasis Pal, Second-in-Command Kumar Sundaram, Deputy Commandants Harish Chandra Singh Bisht, Anil Kumar Joshi (Communications), Prabhakar, Assistant Commandants Sanjay Dimri and Govind Singh Bora, among others.
