Almora. BJP State Executive Member Rajeev Gururani has accused Congress MLA Manoj Tiwari of engaging in continuous politics of opposition. Gururani alleged that Tiwari, in an attempt to save his shrinking political ground, is relying on negative politics and misleading the public.
Referring to the recently concluded panchayat elections, Gururani said the poor state of the Congress party is evident. Out of five district panchayat seats, Congress managed to secure only one, suffered a major defeat in block chief elections, and was completely routed in the municipal panchayat polls.
Gururani further accused MLA Tiwari of opposing the construction of the Doba–Chousali motor road by staging a protest at the Public Works Department. “Had this protest not been carried out, the road would have been completed by now, saving the people and traders from heavy losses,” Gururani said. He added that while the Leader of Opposition was demanding reforms in disaster relief norms, Tiwari was playing politics over disaster benefits and halting road construction.
The BJP leader also recalled that opposition politics has long been a habit of Tiwari. In 2012, he staged a protest at Chaughanpata against his own government by setting up tents, forcing the then Health Minister to arrive by helicopter for talks. Within a month, he was rewarded with a Minister of State rank. Similarly, in 2014 under the Harish Rawat government, roads worth crores were constructed by bypassing standards and benefiting Congress workers, but Tiwari remained silent then.
Gururani alleged that today Tiwari is provoking members of the Vyapar Mandal (Traders’ Association) to create an anti-BJP atmosphere. “But the people know everything and will give him a befitting reply at the right time,” he added.
