Community participation highlights commitment to environmental conservation

As part of the week-long Van Mahotsav (Forest Festival) celebrations, a grand event was organized at Simtola Eco Park in Almora. The festival aimed to promote environmental conservation and green cover expansion, during which several species of saplings including Banj (Oak), Utis (Alder), Angu, and other medicinal plants were planted.
The event witnessed the active participation of officials from the Forest Department, local public representatives, and social organizations. The program was led by Forest Ranger of Almora, Mohan Ram Arya, and supported by Sub-Divisional Officer Bhaskar Nath Mahant, SDO (Station) Amit Singh Bhaisoda, and Forest Beat Officers Vimla Devi, Rahul Maral, Vivek Tiwari, and Mamta Bisht.
Among the local representatives, Amit Shah (Monu), Councillor of Jhijhar Ward, Arjun Singh Bisht of Nanda Devi Ward, Abhishek Joshi of Laxmeshwar Ward, Shyam Pandey of Tripurasundari Ward, and former councillor Jagmohan Bisht actively participated in the plantation drive.
In addition, representatives from Mahila Heart Sanstha, Raju Kandpal and Geeta Pandey, were also present. All participants emphasized the importance of tree plantation and collectively pledged to plant and protect more trees.
Speakers during the program highlighted that environmental protection is the need of the hour, and plantation drives are essential to tackling climate change. They noted that festivals like Van Mahotsav play a key role in raising public awareness and ensuring a greener future for upcoming generations.
The Van Mahotsav at Simtola Eco Park emerged as a powerful example of community participation and love for nature.
