A special seminar was organized under the chairmanship of BJP District President Mahesh Nayal on the 50th anniversary of the Emergency. In his address, Nayal said that June 25, 1975, marks the darkest day in independent India’s history — a day now remembered as “Constitution Murder Day.”
Kailash Sharma, the keynote speaker, remarked that the Emergency was the outcome of Congress’s hunger for power and should rightly be termed as a period of “injustice.” He stated that during this time, the freedom of the press was crushed, the judiciary was shackled, and thousands of social workers were imprisoned. He praised the current government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for deciding to observe the day as “Constitution Murder Day” to make the youth aware of the atrocities committed during that era.
Former Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, Raghunath Singh Chauhan, said that the people of India had then risen in unison with the slogan “Vacate the Throne” and overthrew the dictatorial Congress regime. He paid heartfelt tributes to all the brave democracy fighters who sacrificed to protect the nation’s democratic values.
On this occasion, the sons of democracy fighters Ranjit Singh Bhandari and Prem Singh Bisht, who endured torture during the Emergency, were honoured. Ranjit Singh Bhandari
