Almora:
Concerned about growing lawlessness, the presence of drug addicts, and increasing incidents of forced begging in the town, a group of municipal councillors submitted a memorandum to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Almora. The councillors highlighted various public safety issues that are affecting the daily lives of residents as well as tourists.
In the memorandum, the councillors pointed out that several areas within the town have become hotspots for anti-social elements, especially drug addicts. Their presence in public places like parks, bus stands, and markets creates a sense of fear and insecurity, particularly in the evening hours. Women, children, and elderly people often avoid these areas due to safety concerns. The councillors requested that police patrolling be intensified in such sensitive locations and that strict action be taken against such individuals.
The councillors also raised the issue of beggars, many of whom are reportedly coming from outside the town. They mentioned that these individuals harass pedestrians and tourists by forcibly demanding money. This not only causes public inconvenience but also damages the image of Almora as a peaceful tourist destination. They demanded that proper verification of these individuals be conducted and appropriate legal action be initiated where necessary.
Another key demand included in the memorandum was the installation of CCTV cameras at various locations across the town. The councillors emphasized that such surveillance systems are essential for public safety, crime prevention, and effective law enforcement.
The memorandum was submitted in the presence of Councillors Amit Sah Monu, Abhishek Joshi, Arjun Singh Bisht, Jyoti Sah, Sunil Karnatak, Manoj Tiwari, and Namit Joshi, among others. All of them appealed to the police administration to take swift and decisive action to improve law and order in Almora and ensure the safety and well-being of its residents and visitors.
