Almora: A long-neglected culvert (small bridge) located in the heart of the city near Aroma Automobiles is finally set to undergo renovation, bringing much-needed relief to local residents, shopkeepers, and commuters. The blocked drainage had caused frequent waterlogging, foul odor, and traffic disruptions, becoming a persistent nuisance for the community.
The issue gained momentum after local journalist Kapil Malhotra lodged a complaint via the Chief Minister’s helpline. Acting on the complaint, Ward Councilors Amit Sah ‘Monu’ and Arjun Bisht took up the matter seriously, pressing the concerned departments for immediate action.
In response, a joint team from the Public Works Department (PWD) and the Municipal Corporation conducted an on-site inspection. The team, which included PWD Junior Engineer Ankit Singh, Municipal Corporation JE, and Amin Pandey, found the culvert completely clogged with silt, debris, and garbage. Additionally, the overlying road was in a dilapidated state, posing safety hazards for pedestrians.
Following the inspection, PWD Executive Engineer Harshit Gupta assured that the repair, cleaning, and reconstruction of the culvert has been made a departmental priority. He confirmed that a detailed technical report will guide the upcoming construction plan, and work will begin promptly upon approval.
Councilor Amit Sah ‘Monu’ emphasized that the culvert is a crucial part of the ward’s basic infrastructure, neglected for years. He reiterated his commitment to addressing civic issues consistently. Councilor Arjun Bisht stated that the project directly concerns public safety and convenience and pledged to monitor its progress to ensure timely completion.
