Almora. The world-renowned Almora Dussehra Festival, considered a cultural treasure of Kumaon and an identity of Devbhoomi Uttarakhand, will be celebrated this year in an even grander and more attractive manner. Preparations for the 2025 Dussehra festival are in their final stage. Effigy making is in full swing at several locations in the city, while the organizing committee has resolved to make this year’s celebration more magnificent than ever before.
The Secretary of the Festival and Municipal Councilor, Advocate Vaibhav Pandey, in his official statement, informed that the Dussehra Festival will be celebrated with great enthusiasm and fervor on October 2. He said that this festival is a symbol of Almora’s religious faith, cultural pride, and social unity.
Effigy Inauguration and Burning
As per the program, on October 2 at 2:00 PM, the attractive effigies will be inaugurated at Shikhar Tiraha, one of Almora’s main spots. Thereafter, the Ravana family effigies will parade through various routes of the city, reviving Almora’s historic tradition. After the procession, these effigies will be taken to the Zoology Park at Soban Singh Jeena University campus, where the grand effigy burning ceremony will be held in the evening.
Like every year, effigies of Ravana, Meghnath, and Kumbhkaran along with some themed on contemporary social evils are being prepared. The size, height, and artistry of these effigies will be a special attraction for the spectators.
Cultural Programs and Fireworks
The Dussehra Festival is not just limited to effigy burning, but also represents a confluence of cultural and social activities. Secretary Vaibhav Pandey shared that from 7:30 PM onwards, cultural programs will be held at the local stadium. Local artists will present Kumaoni folk culture through dances, songs, and theatrical performances.
Following this, at around 9:00 PM, the grand fireworks display will take place, which is the main attraction of the festival. The colorful fireworks will light up the entire Almora sky, creating a mesmerizing sight for the audience.
Festive Spirit in the Town
With the festival approaching, a vibrant festive spirit is prevailing in the town. Markets are decorated, shops are buzzing with activity, and children are excitedly waiting to witness the effigy burning. Residents of Almora are eagerly anticipating the event, as it not only embodies religious beliefs but also strengthens social unity and preserves cultural heritage.
