
Keynote Speaker Dr. Mamta Pant Describes Hindi as the Foundation of Cultural Unity

On June 23, 2025, the ICAR–Vivekananda Parvatiya Krishi Anusandhan Sansthan, Hawalbagh, Almora, hosted a grand workshop on the theme “Hindi and Self-Reliant India in the Changing Global Scenario.” The program commenced with the Council song.
Dr. Mamta Pant, Assistant Professor, Department of Hindi, Soban Singh Jeena University, Almora, graced the event as the chief guest and keynote speaker. Senior scientist Dr. Ramesh Singh Pal welcomed all guests and participants at the beginning of the session.
In his inaugural address, the institute’s officiating Director, Dr. Nirmal Kumar Hedau, highlighted the global relevance of Hindi. He stated that Hindi is among the few languages in the world spoken by over 70% of people for communication. He also mentioned that the institute publishes most of its scientific and training material in Hindi to ensure easy accessibility of research to mountain farmers. Dr. Hedau emphasized that today, even global platforms, including the United Nations, are resonating with the sound of Hindi.

Dr. Mamta Pant began her keynote speech with the patriotic line “Sare Jahan Se Achha Hindustan Hamara” and asserted that Hindi is not just a language but a powerful medium of expression. Highlighting the historical, social, and cultural dimensions of Hindi, she noted that Hindi comprises five sub-languages and 17 major dialects, making it a true symbol of unity in diversity.
She further pointed out that approximately 45% of the Indian population uses Hindi as a link language, while over 70% adopt it as a secondary language. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speeches delivered in Hindi at international platforms, she illustrated the growing global stature of the language. Dr. Pant also shared that Hindi is taught at 113 universities in the United States, reflecting its international recognition.
Administrative Participation and Conclusion
The workshop saw participation from Dr. Krishna Kant Mishra (Head, Crop Protection Division), Dr. Kushagra Joshi (Head, Social Sciences Section), along with all scientific, administrative, technical, and supporting staff of the institute.
The program was conducted by Renu Sanwal, Chief Technical Officer and Official Language In-Charge, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Krishna Kant Mishra.
