Almora – In a bid to make Indian agriculture self-reliant and technologically empowered, the Central Government will launch the ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’ from May 29 to June 12 across the country. Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has urged agricultural scientists to directly connect with farmers and help them benefit from agricultural science, innovations, and modern techniques.
As part of this initiative, scientists from the Vivekananda Parvatiya Krishi Anusandhan Sansthan (VPKAS), Almora, under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), will reach out to farmers in various districts of Uttarakhand. They will visit villages and share knowledge on advanced techniques for the Kharif season, climate-resilient farming, soil health management, organic farming, high-yield seed varieties, and modern agricultural tools.
Dr. Lakshmi Kant, Director of the institute, stated that the main goal of this campaign is to integrate traditional hill farming with scientific practices, thereby increasing farmers’ income and making agriculture a more profitable enterprise. He urged farmers to actively participate in the campaign.
Senior scientist Dr. Kushagra Joshi shared that seven teams of scientists have been formed for Almora, Bageshwar, and Chamoli districts. These teams will conduct daily programs in collaboration with state and central agricultural officials. In addition to providing training, they will listen to farmers’ issues and offer scientifically-backed solutions.
The campaign is considered a major step toward empowering farmers and encouraging innovation in alignment with the goal of ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’.
