
Almora (Hawalbagh). A two-day farmer training program on “Advanced Production and Processing Technologies of Millets” was successfully organized at the Experimental Farm of ICAR-Vivekananda Parvatiya Krishi Anusandhan Sansthan (VPKAS), Almora on 26–27 August 2025.
The training was sponsored by the Agriculture Department, Champawat (Uttarakhand) under the ATMA scheme. The main objective was to familiarize farmers of hill regions with the latest and advanced technologies related to millets (Shri Ann). A total of 30 farmers from Champawat district participated in the training.
During the program, participants were provided detailed information through lectures and practical demonstrations on high-yielding varieties of millets developed by the institute, advanced agronomic practices, crop protection, value addition, and post-harvest processing technologies.
In the valedictory session, Dr. N.K. Hedau, Acting Director of the institute and Head, Crop Improvement Division, addressed the farmers. He highlighted the importance of millets in ensuring nutritional security and their relevance in the context of climate change. He urged farmers to adopt the technologies developed by the institute, focus on processing and value-addition-based enterprises, and move towards commercial farming.
At the end of the program, participants were awarded certificates and a training manual. The training program was successfully coordinated by Dr. Mahendra Singh Bhinda and Dr. Anuradha Bhartiya.
