Demand to Cancel Direct Recruitment of Principals, Promotions and Transfers
Almora. On the occasion of Teachers’ Day, a large number of government school teachers staged a silent rally in the district headquarters on Monday under the banner of the Government Teachers’ Association, voicing their long-pending demands.
The rally began from Gandhi Park, Chaughanpata, passed through Milan Chowk and the main market, and concluded back at Chaughanpata. The teachers, wearing black armbands, carried placards with messages such as “Cancel Direct Recruitment of Principals,” “Implement Promotions Immediately,” and “Execute Pending Transfer Orders.”
The teachers demanded that the government cancel the direct recruitment process for the post of Principal, ensure timely promotions of eligible teachers, and implement the long-pending transfers. They pointed out that these delays were not only causing resentment among teachers but also disrupting the overall academic environment in schools.
Speakers at the rally strongly criticized the state government, accusing it of being “insensitive” towards teachers’ genuine concerns. They said that teachers have been staging protests and agitations for over a month now, yet neither the government nor the education department has initiated any dialogue with them. “This silence from the authorities is deeply disappointing and has further aggravated the frustration of teachers,” they added.
Teachers also warned that if their demands were ignored further, the agitation would be intensified. They stressed that the government cannot expect to improve the quality of education while continuously neglecting the issues faced by its teachers.
The rally witnessed participation from a large number of teachers across the district. The protest remained peaceful, with teachers maintaining complete discipline throughout the route.
Prominent participants included District President Bhupal Singh Chilwal, District Minister Raju Mehra, Madan Bhandari, Meenakshi Joshi, Radha Laspal, Lata Verma, Kailash Singh Dolia, Heera Singh Bora, Dharmveer Singh, Vinod Papnai, Shivraj Bisht, Bharat Bhushan Joshi, Govind Rawat, Khushhaal Mehra, Nitesh Kandpal, Lalit Tiwari, Virendra Sijwali, Harivansh Bisht, Kishan Kholiya, Trivendra Singh, Brijesh Daseela, Bhola Dutt Pant, Lalit Mohan Tiwari, Deep Chandra Pandey, Deep Prakash Joshi, Jeevan Lal Sah, Megha Manral, Gaurav Dalakoti, Pramod Chandra, Heera Dobal, Naresh Pandey, P.C.
