Danya (Almora). Students of Danya Degree College staged a strong protest on Friday over the non-availability of their own college building. The agitated students raised slogans on the streets and burnt an effigy of the executing agency, Mandi Parishad.
The students said that even after a delay of one and a half years from the scheduled deadline, the construction of the college building has not been completed. As a result, they are forced to study in the 25-year-old Atal Utkrisht School building, which is in a dilapidated condition. During the rainy season, water leaks from the roof, disrupting classes. At present, more than 700 students are enrolled in the college, but they neither have proper facilities nor a conducive academic environment.
Local social workers and students have repeatedly appealed to the university administration and the government, but no concrete action has been taken so far.
Student leaders Gokul Dasiila and Anuradha Gainda warned that if immediate steps are not taken to complete the building, the students will be compelled to intensify their agitation.
