Almora. The Indian Red Cross Society stepped forward to support disaster-affected families in Almora, distributing essential relief items such as blankets and utensils to victims in Girish Chand Pargai, Bhuvan Chand Pandey, K.C. Sanwal, Upreti Khola, and Nanda Devi wards. The team also visited damaged houses and personally helped by laying tarpaulins on rooftops, providing temporary shelter for the affected families.
During the visit, Red Cross Society officials interacted with the families and listened to their problems. Expressing concern, the Society said that the relief amount currently being provided by the state government is far too low to meet the actual needs of the victims. Society President Ashish Verma appealed to the state government and district administration to increase the relief package to at least ₹50,000 per family, so that disaster-hit households can recover and manage basic necessities. He pointed out that the existing relief amount is insufficient to cover the losses suffered by the families.
Verma assured that the Red Cross Society will continue to stand by the people in every crisis and remain committed to serving humanity. He also urged the community to come forward and extend support to those struggling due to the calamity.
Those present on the occasion included Red Cross State Member Manoj Sanwal, Councilors Arjun Bisht Cheema, Amit Sah Monu, Abhishek Joshi, Treasurer Deepak Joshi, along with Devendra Bhatt, Kapil Malhotra, and Manoj Chamyal. They not only distributed relief materials but also actively participated in helping families secure their damaged homes.
Local residents appreciated the initiative of the Red Cross Society, stating that such timely support provides much-needed relief to disaster victims. They also expressed hope that the state government and administration would soon take concrete steps to increase financial assistance for the affected families.
In conclusion, Red Cross members reaffirmed that the organization’s primary objective is to serve humanity in all circumstances, and similar relief efforts will continue in the future whenever people are in need.
