Councilor Amit Sah Monu’s Ongoing Campaign to Preserve Almora’s Ancient Naulas

On the auspicious occasion of the folk festival Harela, a cleanliness drive was carried out at the traditional water source (naula) located near the Simlatana Shiv Temple in the New Collectorate Pandekhola Ward. The initiative was led by local ward councilors as part of a broader campaign to preserve Almora’s historic water heritage.
It is noteworthy that around one and a half months ago, Councilor Amit Sah Monu launched a campaign focused on the protection and revival of Almora’s ancient naulas (traditional stepwells). Under this ongoing initiative, a different naula is selected every week for cleaning and maintenance. The campaign has been steadily gaining public support.
Councilor Amit Sah Monu stated that the existence of naulas in the town is under threat due to neglect, and regular cleaning and conservation efforts are crucial for their survival. He emphasized that the core aim of his mission is to preserve these invaluable water sources so they can be passed down as a heritage to future generations.
Participating in the cleanliness drive were Councilor Tulsi Devi, Councilor Abhishek Joshi, Councilor Jyoti Sah, Pradeep Pandey “Mitthu”, Anuj Sah, Darpan Pandey, and other local residents. All present pledged to support the conservation of these traditional water structures.
