A Historic Step Towards Women Empowerment by the Dhami Government
Dehradun – In a landmark move, the Dhami-led government in Uttarakhand has granted representation to Muslim women in the state Haj Committee for the first time since the formation of the state. The decision is being widely praised as a progressive step toward inclusive governance and women’s empowerment.
Acting on the recommendation of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the state government has appointed three Muslim women to the Haj Committee. This initiative aims to ensure that women have a voice in the decision-making process related to the Haj pilgrimage and its associated issues.
According to the official list released by the administration, Rizwana Parveen, a councilor from Kotdwar Municipal Corporation; Tarannum Khan from Haldwani; and Shahida Siraj from Almora have been appointed as members of the Haj Committee. Their inclusion is being seen as a significant move towards gender representation and empowerment within the Muslim community.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami stated, “Muslim women undertaking the Haj pilgrimage often face unique challenges. By including them in the Haj Committee, we are providing them a platform to share their concerns and suggestions directly. This is the first time such representation has been ensured since the state’s inception.”
He also recalled that the state government had earlier appointed Saira Bano as Vice Chairperson of the State Women Commission as part of its commitment to women’s welfare and empowerment.
Additionally, the committee now includes Muhammad Shahzad, the honorable MLA from Laksar. Other newly appointed members include Zeeshan Ahmed, Haseeb Ahmed, Islamuddin Ansari, Sameer Jafri, Khateeb Ahmed, Mannan Raja, Haji Abrar Hussain, and Haji Faheem Khan.
This decision reflects the Uttarakhand government’s inclusive approach and its dedication to empowering women across all communities. The move has been welcomed by various sections of society as a progressive and thoughtful initiative.

महिला सशक्तिकरण की दिशा में धामी सरकार का ऐतिहासिक कदम
देहरादून। धामी सरकार ने एक ऐतिहासिक निर्णय लेते हुए पहली बार राज्य की हज कमेटी में मुस्लिम महिलाओं को प्रतिनिधित्व प्रदान किया है। मुख्यमंत्री पुष्कर सिंह धामी के सुझाव पर तीन महिलाओं को हज कमेटी में शामिल किया गया है, जिससे हज यात्रा से जुड़ी नीतियों और समस्याओं पर मुस्लिम महिलाओं की भी भागीदारी सुनिश्चित हो सके।
शासन द्वारा जारी सूची के अनुसार, कोटद्वार नगर निगम की पार्षद रिजवाना परवीन, हल्द्वानी की तरन्नुम खान और अल्मोड़ा की शाहिदा सिराज को हज कमेटी का सदस्य नामित किया गया है। इन महिलाओं की नियुक्ति महिला सशक्तिकरण के दृष्टिकोण से महत्वपूर्ण मानी जा रही है।
मुख्यमंत्री पुष्कर सिंह धामी ने कहा कि, “हज यात्रा पर जाने वाली मुस्लिम महिलाओं को भी कई प्रकार की समस्याओं का सामना करना पड़ता है। राज्य बनने के बाद पहली बार उन्हें हज कमेटी में प्रतिनिधित्व देकर हमने यह सुनिश्चित किया है कि वे अपनी समस्याओं और सुझावों को सीधे कमेटी के समक्ष रख सकें।
मुख्यमंत्री ने यह भी स्मरण कराया कि इससे पहले भी सरकार ने महिला सशक्तिकरण की दिशा में कार्य करते हुए सायरा बानो को राज्य महिला आयोग की उपाध्यक्ष नियुक्त किया था।
हज कमेटी में लक्सर के माननीय विधायक मुहम्मद शहजाद को भी प्रतिनिधित्व मिला है। इनके अलावा जिशान अहमद, हसीब अहमद, इस्लामुद्दीन अंसारी, समीर जाफरी, खतीब अहमद, मन्नान राजा, हाजी अबरार हुसैन और हाजी फईम खान को भी सदस्य नामित किया गया है। यह निर्णय उत्तराखंड सरकार की समावेशी सोच और महिलाओं के सशक्तिकरण के प्रति उसकी प्रतिबद्धता को दर्शाता है।
