A local youth, Hem Soradi, who was found injured during the Nanda Devi Fair in Almora, passed away during treatment on the previous day. His death has raised serious suspicion among locals and the fair committee, who allege that the incident appears to be a case of murder.
Today, members of the Nanda Devi Temple Committee along with local residents met the City CO and submitted a memorandum demanding a fair and thorough investigation.
Fair Committee President Manoj Verma said that such an incident in a peaceful place like Almora is extremely unfortunate and suspicious, pointing towards possible foul play. Committee Secretary Manoj Sanwal urged the police to carry out a clear investigation and take strict action against any suspects involved. He warned that if no action is taken, locals will be compelled to launch an agitation.
Municipal Councilor Amit Sah Monu emphasized the need to curb anti-social elements in the area. He said that with Navratri, Ramlila, and Durga Puja festivities approaching, women and children frequently visit temples and pandals, making security even more crucial. He demanded increased police patrolling and checking campaigns to ensure safety, stressing that negligence in this case would not be tolerated.
Residents also expressed fear as Ramleela and Dussehra celebrations are scheduled later this month, saying the incident has created panic in the community. They demanded immediate investigation and arrest of those responsible.
Those who submitted the memorandum included Nanda Devi Temple Committee President Manoj Verma, Secretary Manoj Sanwal, Councilor Amit Sah Monu, BJP Nagar President Vineet Bisht, Anup Sah, Harish Bisht, Manoj Singh Bisht, Lavanya Pant, Trilochan Joshi, Paritosh Joshi, Naveen Verma, Hitesh Verma, Mohammad Habib, Vijay Chauhan, Kuldeep Mer, Bharat Bhatt, Naman Bisht, Varun Sah, Gaurav Kanwal, Sumit Sah, Pawan Pant, Deepak Verma, Ravi Goyal, Arham Habib, along with dozens of local residents.
